Easter Break!

Hello parents!

Easter Break is just around the corner! We hope you will have a nice and relaxing one, we all deserve it!

As Earth Day is approaching, we will be doing various activities talking about what we can do for our mother earth. We would like you to talk with your children at home about what they can do for earth such as recycling. We want them to be aware that though it may seem little, we all play a part in helping the earth to get better! To raise the awareness and educate our children, over the break please talk with your children about the drought issue we are facing now. You can direct your conversation to things the children see around them, especially when you go to the super market and noticing the prices on fresh fruit. Please talk with them about how we can save water due to the drought and what may happen if we run of water. Yikes :(

When we come back for the break, we will spend a week for review week. There will be daily homework but no weekly homework for now :)

That's all for now, have a fantastic week off! enjoy the beautiful sun and relax with your beautiful children. We all deserve it after working hard every day!

Florita, Fanahi, and Maria

Happy April!

Hello parents!

Happy April! (can you hear Spring Break coming up! Whoo hoo!)

We spent a week with /x/ and /y/, and as you might have guessed, we will learn about /z/, the last letter of the letter books! (Can you believe how fast it went?!)

Thank you so much for those of you who sent in the box project early! They look fabulous, we are so excited to hear all about it from the students!

We are spending time with "Read it! Draw it! and Solve it!". It enhances on the prior knowledge and we are practicing writing complete equations.

In Maria's class, we are learning about seeds. It has been a great experience to have the garden right in front of our classes to see how they have been growing!

We have one more week until Spring Break! We can do this!

Hang in there,
Florita, Fanahi, and Maria

Good bye March ! Hello April!

Hello parents!
Wow, can you believe it? We are saying bye to March already!! The students have been working so hard and we are so proud to see the growth. Thank you for being so supportive.

We have only TWO more letter books to go. We will study /x/AND /y/ next week but we will not divide it up for two weeks like we did with /k/ and /q/. We will spend one week with /x/ and /y/.
Since there is no school on Monday, we will send home the Monday homework tomorrow along with the weekly and the story.

There is a special project due next Friday! You can take the advantage of the 3-Day weekend and get started on it early! We will be talking about recycling in the classrooms (especially during Mixing in Maria's class), and the students should use recycled materials to make a special box. It is due on April 4th, Friday.

The students will do a short presentation on the box they make. They will have to answer three questions and write them as well. Please have them write the question and the answer on a lined paper and turn it in with the box. The students will have to stand in front of the class and answer the three questions.

Thank you for your support! We only have a few more months left of Kindergarten. Let's get ready for first grade together.

Warmly,
Florita, Fanahi, and Maria

In Maria's class, we spent time learning about presidents as well as famous African-Americans. We will continue this unit until the end of February.

Whale Watching

Hello Parents!
We had a FANTASTIC time during our field trip! Though the weather was foggy, we saw so many whales, it was the best whale watching trip we had EVER. It was so amazing to see the whales coming up to breathe, they even showed us their flukes. It was so great! Thank you for all the parents to joined us and helped us out. Your help was very appreciated.

Couple announcements,
We are having our Lunar New Year festival today and we will be talking about it in our classes. Please ask your children when they come home about what they learned.

We have our 100th day of school coming up! If you have not turned in the project, please do so. We got a couple already and they look fabulous!

We have chess every THURSDAY for 20 minutes during rest time. We have an awesome teacher who comes to the room every week and the students are so engaged! Also, the students will have a chance to participate in chess club as they get older. The students are just starting out, but it's very exciting to see how engaged the students are in chess! We can't to see them play.
To find out more about the program, you can go to the program's website, www.chesstrain.org. You can also order different chess boards from their website if you wish to do so.

Next week we will be learning about the letter /N/. As always, please practice the story at home with your child as well as all the letters (and their sounds) we have learned so far. It is important to review as the students are learning new letters.

Welcome back!

Welcome back to school parents!
We hope everyone had a nice three weeks off. The weather has been a little bit funky, make sure your children dress in layers! You know it gets SUPER HOT up here!

This week we learned about the letter /u/.
Next week, we'll learn about the letter /b/.
It is so important that the students practice reading the story EVERY SINGLE DAY. Please keep reviewing the sounds of the letters that we have studied so far. It will come in handy.

In Maria's class, the students have been learning about Dr. Martin Luther King. The students will also learn about the Lunar New Year in two weeks.

In Florita's class, the students are learning about "take away". They are continuing with number sentences and word problems with pictures.

Please continue to work with your children at home. We have been seeing a lot of improvements but it's crucial that they keep reviewing at home.

We have our second field trip coming up soon! Please remember that this trip has limited seating on the boat for the parents. Also, please keep in mind, it is first come first serve. If you would like to join us, please let your teacher know ASAP. We'll find out if we can get more space on the boat and if we do, we'll let you know!

As always, thank you for your cooperation.

Florita, Fanahi and Maria.
