Welcome Back!

Hello parents!
We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. We hope it was as relaxing for you as it was for us.

We studied the letter /f/ this week and will be studying the letter /e/ next week.
There are a lot of words for next week, no need to make a letter book with all the letters, just the ones with a star on it.

In room.7, Maria is working on the season with the students, talking about the winter and the changes that comes with the new season.
In room.5, Florita is working on the Holiday themed addition equations.

We only have two more weeks until the winter break!
We just want to take the time to thank the parents for being so wonderful and supportive. You guys are the best!

Warmly,
Florita, Fanahi, and Maria

CMCS Kindergarten is the BEST!

Hello parents!
As you know, we had our first field trip of the year yesterday at STAR ECO Station. We had so much fun learning about the environment and exotic wildlife animals who were rescued. Then we had lunch at the culver city park and played on the play ground. While we were playing, the park ranger told one of our teachers that our group of kids were the best behaved students he had ever seen. He also said, if all schools behaved this good, the world would be a better place. What an amazing thing to hear! GO Kindergarteners! :)

This week, we have been learning about the letter /I/. The students were not only sounding out and blending, but also forming simple sentences. I'm sure you noticed the amazing work the students are doing at home and at school.

Next week, the first story of the letter books will be sent home! The story is called "Tag", and it'll go home with the weekly homework. Please practice at home with your child and make sure he/she can sound out every single word in the story! We will practice the story everyday in class.

To celebrate Thanksgiving, the kindergarten classes are doing our annual feast on November 21st.
As time approaches, we'll send you more details.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact your child's teacher.
As always, thank you for your support.

Warmly,
Florita, Fanahi and Maria :)

S is for Skeleton!

Hello parents!
This week, we spent time learning about the letter /S/. It was very exciting to see how much all the children are having fun reading words and blending the sounds. What a magical moment! We are very proud of the students for trying their very best.

We had our first spelling test of the year today! (Only for Rm.6 & 7)
If the student missed a word or more, they will get the test back to study for tomorrow. The result of the test will be indicated on the weekly STAR report on Friday.

On Halloween, we'll have our schools' annual "Parade of Masks". Please have your child bring their costumes in a bag to school. We will have time to change before the event begins.

Next week, we will learn the letter /L/. Please continue to work with your child at home, reviewing all the sounds we have learned so far.

This week in mixing...
  • In Florita's class, we are working on beginning addition. We are continuing with making patterns. We are now writing numbers from 1 to 50. Please make sure that the students write all the numbers in the correct way. We are continuing with graphing as well. We'll be sending the second home links next week. Please continue to have the accountable talk about math, (talking about numbers the children see all over the place)
  • In Fanahi's class, we are continuing with the letter /S/ and journal writing. Please talk with your children about writing in sequence. They will soon write in journals in sequence using words such as First, Then, Next and Last.
  • In Maria's class, we are finishing up parts of the pumpkin. We'll introduce thanksgiving unit soon!

Thank you for your support always.

Warmly,
Florita. Fanahi and Maria :)

D is for Dodgers!

Hello parents!

First of all, there was a mistake! The ECO station field trip date is Wednesday, November 6th NOT Tuesday November 5th. We apologize for the mistake. If you would like to come, please send a note to your teacher.

We had a busy day learning about the letter /d/ this week!
The students started to blend the sounds together to read words, how exciting!
Please keep working with your children at home.
Next week, we are starting with the letter /s/.

Next week, we will start spelling tests! (for Room.6 and Room.7 only. Room.5 started already)
We will do the spelling test in Fanahi's class during mixing. The students will have two chances to take the test. We will do a practice test on Thursday and if the student does not get a 100%, they will get the spelling test back to study for the night. The result of the spelling test, including the missed words, will be indicated on the weekly STAR report.

This week in mixing...

  • In Florita's class, we are continuing with the graphs. We had our apple tasting this week with carmel, honey, and peanut butter. The students voted on their favorite apple and created a class graph during mixing. We started beginning addition by drawing a picture to match the simple addition equation.

  • In Fanahi's class, we focused on the letter /d/ as we worked on blending the sounds to read words. We are continuing with our journals as well as letter books.

  • In Maria's class for this week and next week, we will be learning about parts of a pumpkin. We are having a hands-on experience with the pumpkins. We will be integrating math as we estimate seeds and measuring the length and the with of the pumpkin using a string.

As always, thank you for your support!

Warmly,
Florita, Fanahi and Maria :)

A is for Apple, D is for Dog!

Hello Parents!

This week we learned about the letter /a/. Next week, we'll begin the letter /d/.
We cannot stress it enough about how important it is to keep working at home! We will start blending the sounds of /d/, /o/, /g/, /c/, and /a/.
It will be very exciting to see the students read at school as well as at home. Keep up the good work!

Here are some of the things we are doing in mixing...
In social studies (Maria's class), we are still learning about the fall, pumpkin life cycle and parts of a pumpkin.
In math (Florita's class), we are still writing numbers (1-40), practicing tally marks, and counting. We will be doing pumpkin math and graphing our favorite apples as we taste them.
In language arts, (Fanahi's class), we are writing in our journals and working on our letter of the week.
Please continue to work with your kids at home! :)

Our first field trip is coming up!
We will be going to ECO Station in Culver City on November 5th. The parents are welcome to come, but we have limited seating on the bus. The seats will be available on first-come-first-bases. Please write a note to your teachers if you would like to join us as a chaperone.
(Reminder, if you are coming as a chaperone, you are there for everyone! Please keep that in mind as you join us. :)

We will send out a reminder as time approaches. Keep in mind, if your child rides to ECO station on the bus, they must return to school on the bus!

As always, thank you for your support!

Warmly,
Florita, Fanahi and Maria :)

First week of October

Hello parents!
I hope everyone had a great review week! We reviewed the three sounds we've learned so far, number writing, and color words.

Next week we will continue with our letter books with the letter /A/.
Please go over the words that begins with /A/ at home as well as /C/, /O/, and /G/.
There are some students who are still struggling with the sounds that these letters make. Pretty soon, we are going to start blending the sounds together to read words. It is crucial that the students are reviewing the sounds of the letters DAILY.

In Fanahi's class, we are reviewing the sounds of the letters and journal writing. Please have your kids practice writing the alphabet in upper and lower case at home.

In Maria's class, we will start learning the life cycle of the pumpkin. Please talk to your kids are home about the pumpkin.

In Florita's class, we are still learning counting and writing numbers, graphs, counting tally marks, days of the week, and months of the year.

In everyone's class, we are getting ready for fall by doing various fun art projects such as making stain-glass pumpkins, fall leaves, and Halloween themed patterns for October.

We are beginning our new enrichment rotation next week.

  • Room. 5 will have Technology on Mondays, Dance on Tuesdays, P.E. on Wednesdays and Fridays, but no enrichment on Thursdays.

  • Room. 6 will have Art on Mondays, Technology on Tuesdays, P.E. on Wednesdays and Fridays and Technology on Thursdays.

  • Room. 7 will have Music on Mondays, no enrichment on Tuesdays, P.E. on Wednesdays and Fridays, no enrichment on Thursdays.

In technology with Kirsten, we have been practicing writing the alphabet with the app called "Letter School". It is a highly recommended and highly rated app for learning the alphabet. The kids enjoy it very much, so if you have an ipad at home, you can check it out at the app store.

Thank you for your support,
Florita, Fanahi, and Maria :)
